Someone pointed me to an article on the web that said Apple's Siri was going to kill off all need for SEO. I have to agree and I think that everyone should stop all their SEO right away. Well at least all the business that compete with me. Stop the SEO and focus on just one system and just one user and just one demographic. Then I can conquer everything else.
Lets face it people- The Phone Book isn't extinct yet and we have been telling people it is dead for years; however, businesses still dump tons of money into Yellow Page listings because they get customers. The same applies to SEO even in the face (or non-face) of SIRI.
Why will SEO be important going into the future: Why don't you go ask SIRI? oh.... wait.... it doesn't answer questions like that. Continue Reading for my thoughts on SIRI and other voice recognition programs.
SEO will work now and into the future because SIRI and other super-apps that use the information from other apps and sources still have to have those other apps and sources. Information isn't just pulled out of space. The only reason you can ask SIRI for a local pizza place is because that pizza place did some kind of SEO to get them indexed by major Internet players.
- Every SEO article.
- Every Google Map
- Every YELP Review
- Every mention on Facebook
- Every Tweet
All of these things are going to be how SIRI and other systems make their decisions on what content to provide back to you. Yes much of it will be what we call 'localized' search optimization. After all if you are in Georgia and ask SIRI for the best pizza place nearby you shouldn't get (nor want) a listing for some pizza place in Chicago who is paying for clicks. (jab jab uppercut)
SIRI is nothing more than another way people will be bombarded with marketing and advertising. It isn't the same as surfing the web because you want something specific. It isn't the same as social networking because you aren't necessarily giving your opinion or location based on your friends. It is more of a compilation engine that tries to figure you out and what results you would want.
Getting kind of scary out there isn't it. Pretty soon the Internet will know more about us and our families then we know, care to know or can even remember. Keep marketing your business and website in every possible way.
